Best InsideTracker Alternatives

Best InsideTracker Alternatives

InsideTracker has remained one of the top options for those looking to track their fitness and health long-term. Unfortunately, I have found that, as an otherwise healthy and active individual, the data it provides simply isn’t insightful. Moreover, one of the biggest drivers behind this subscription service is the fitness tracker, and yet there are consistent issues syncing the tracker to the data, which makes it difficult to monitor anything effectively.

So I started looking for the best InsideTracker alternatives, and here is what I found:

Top pick is MyLifeForce. They have the best benefits with the highest number of blood draws, so you get more in-depth comparisons for how your lifestyle changes have impacted your health.

But TruDiagnostics has the widest range of biomarkers that are tested without any additional memberships or dashboard data. Superpower, FunctionHealth, and Mito are good for ordering individual tests and getting a low-key form of annual review for your health.

Let’s see how they compare.

Topic Contents

LifeForce

LifeForce is one of the only InsideTracker alternatives I’ve found that gives you a telehealth consultation. This might not seem like much, but it is. If you’ve ever received an email or a test result from your doctor and had to call the nurse or the doctor to ask some follow-ups, you’ll appreciate what a difference this particular feature can make.

Best InsideTracker Alternatives

Other alternatives give you a PDF summary, a clinical summary, or personalized guidance. These are all the fancy names they use to describe the same thing: a text document that gives you a quick summary of what they believe your blood results indicate and how you can make changes.

LifeForce opens the gate with a 45-minute telehealth consultation where you can actually see the doctor and talk to them, ask them questions, and really dive into what your results indicate.

LifeForce differs from all the other InsideTracker alternatives in that you have the option, depending on where you live, to have an at-home phlebotomist do your blood draw. They also do a blood draw every three months, which is the highest you’ll find out of comparative companies, and I think it is one of the best ways to more accurately measure changes you have made.

How it Works

You schedule your blood draw, which can be done at home or in a lab. Within a few days, you get your key biomarker measurements, a health questionnaire, and a one-on-one Telehealth meeting with a clinician to go over your results and build a health plan. From there, you get a customized program with a dedicated health coach and the ability to retest those same exact biomarkers every quarter so you know exactly how well your lifestyle changes have worked.

Cost

The basic diagnostic membership is $599, with options to apply your healthcare benefits or use a military discount. Depending on the promotion you use, you might see an initial fee of $249 and subsequent monthly fees of around $140.

Benefits

Not only do you get a membership, not just a single test, but you get access to discounts on prescription medications where appropriate, supplements, a coach, telehealth consultations, not just a written summary, and an ongoing dashboard where you can monitor your changes.

Mito

Mito looks at over 100 biomarkers (sensing a theme here) that have to do with categories like:

  1. Heat health
  2. Inflammation
  3. Hormones
  4. Cancer screening
  5. Metabolism

As part of this program, you get the core comprehensive lab test, clinical summary, and action plan, and access to additional blood tests and scans based on your initial findings. I have nothing against the company, but I will say that the majority of the “insight” they give, though based on things like your self-reported lifestyle habits and health history, mostly seem like a way to get you to buy more advanced blood tests.

How it Works

You start by selecting the lab panel you want and adding any additional tests that you see fit. You have to provide a quick health history and some lifestyle details to the clinicians, after which you schedule a lab test at Quest Diagnostics (seriously, is everyone in bed with Quest?) or BioReference locations, depending on your state.

The clinician reviews your results, and in about 3 weeks, you get your health profile with some insights and recommendations. Mito is kind enough to send you reminders to get another test every 3 to 6 months so that you can track your progress.

Cost

Mito is around $400, but you can apply HSA/FSA benefits to the cost. They also give you a discount if you bundle your program for two people.

Benefits

You get insights from a doctor, which is probably why it takes so long to get your results. However, you also get personalized medical advice, complete with recommendations on your nutrition, lifestyle, and what supplements you should take.

TruDiagnostic

TruDiagnostic is a company that focuses on epigenetic biomarkers. So it uses a blood draw to track critical data about your biological age versus your chronological age, basically how things like diet, exercise, and genetics have impacted the overall health and “age” of your body. I think of the old adage, “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.”

This company partnered with Harvard to develop over 1,670 epigenetic biomarkers and measurements to look at your cellular function, including things like:

  1. Oxidative stress
  2. Neurocognition
  3. Amino acids
  4. Inflammation rates
  5. Toxin levels

Unlike many of the other InsideTracker alternatives, this doesn’t come with any form of subscription or package deal to try and encourage you to buy supplements; it comes with the simple tests, and you can choose which of the tests you want and then use that data however you see fit.

How it Works

They conduct a blood draw using a finger prick and measure thousands of epigenetic biomarkers to get 20 times more data than you would get from a physical exam. As someone who is terrified of needles, I fully support the finger prick over the phlebotomist visit.

Cost

$500 for a single round of tests.

Benefits

You get a much deeper look at specific biomarkers for things like the age and health of individual organs in your body, and how quickly your body is aging based on your lifestyle and your cellular health.

FunctionHealth

FunctionHealth offers an array of tests, some of which are included in your annual membership, and others are excluded but available at an additional cost. For example, getting a test for Lyme disease is available but not included, so you can buy this for an extra cost at any time, which might give you faster insight into whether that tick bite you got while camping last year actually caused some problems or not.

FunctionHealth gives you two lab tests per year, which is why it’s twice the cost of alternatives like SuperPower, which only provides one per year.

I did notice that the annual test is comprehensive, and it looks at over 100 markers. The “second” test, which I assumed would be exactly the same, is administered usually 3 to 6 months later just to see how any changes have had an impact, but it only looks at 60 markers. So it isn’t as comprehensive as you might expect for the price. I, for one, want to be able to track all of the same identifiers to see where my changes have had an impact.

One of the things a lot of people either really love or hate about FunctionHealth is the clinical summary. After you get your blood draw, you typically get overloaded with a bunch of data in a personalized dashboard. Each InsideTracker alternative presents this data differently, and FunctionHealth gives you a clinical summary that a doctor writes, so that you sort of understand what your key markers indicate and where you might consider additional changes or follow-up appointments with a doctor.

How it Works

You schedule your lab tests at a Quest Diagnostics location, and after a few days, you get a written clinician summary of your results with a quick phone call if they find anything critical. Much like many of the best InsideTracker alternatives, the lab visit should not take more than 15 minutes.

Cost

The annual cost is $500 for the membership, but additional tests can come at a separate cost.

Benefits

Two lab tests each year, monitoring for early indicators of diseases for as long as you keep your membership, and a clinical summary of what your findings indicate.

Superpower

Superpower does over 100 tests on an annual basis, looking for over 1,000 conditions. The annual membership will look for 100 key biomarkers, however, relating to things like:

  1. Thyroid health
  2. Metabolic health
  3. Liver health
  4. Body composition
  5. Inflammation

While the website claims that it’s only $200 per year to get all of this, that’s simply not true. In the fine print, you’ll see which biomarkers are legitimately included in that basic annual blood test and which panels come at an additional cost.

With metabolic health, for example, your test might include things like estimated average glucose and hemoglobin A1c, but if you want your actual insulin levels, it costs another $189 at checkout.

There isn’t a lot of extra support included in your membership cost, which is probably why everything is comparatively less expensive, but you do have the option of adding supplements or nutrients and additional tests.

How it Works

You start by booking your lab test at one of the several thousand locations they have across the United States. According to the website, you never have to wait for your lab visit, and everything is done in less than 15 minutes.

Once you complete your blood work, you will get results in five business days. The blood draw presents information on things like hormones, nutrition, thyroid health, and heart health, and then connects you to additional diagnostics and the option to purchase pharmaceuticals or supplements at an additional cost to help change your health.

Cost

The cost is around $200, but you can apply HSA/FSA benefits to that cost.

Benefits

You get a platform that connects you to supplements and prescriptions where necessary, and a medical team that you can speak to via messaging 24/7.

Summing Up

LifeForce is the best InsideTracker alternative. It might be the most expensive, but it also has options for at-home blood draws; it gives you blood draws every 3 months instead of once per year or twice per year, and you get real consultations, not just a written report about your findings.

Runner-up for people who want to focus on their cellular or epigenetic health is TruDiagnostics. They have the most comprehensive panel of biomarkers, with over 1,670 biomarkers evaluated from a simple finger prick.

If you want to save money, Superpower or FunctionHealth are good options, and if you only want tests without a dashboard and a comprehensive push for supplements, Mito is worth considering.
